Ummmmmmmm
"I'm Umm...from Umbridge." This is what Alice says to the Red Queen in Tim Burton's movie. So here's what I was wondering. ......
How could the Red Queen believe her name is Um and that she lives in Umbridge? What are the odds? Or are there odds? Are all Umbridgians named Um? How do you distinguish between the Ums?
By adjectives.
I'm Purple Um, my favorite color is purple is why. Well I'm Ridiculous Um, and there's Free-spirited Um, and Smelly Um. But how do they already know what one is like when an Um is born?
They don't. All children are just little Ums. Until developing a distinctive trait, an Um isn't named or distinguished between another Um. Other than looks that is. But once named, I wonder, will they always be that way? What if they change? Then what? Can they change their name?
No.....they cannot possibly, I don't think.
They might steal another Um's name and
at any rate it would just be quite confusing.
No, no.
They must stick to their name chosen at time of distinctive personality development. And stick to their discription. Purple Um must not ever invite any other color into her spectrum of favorite colors. Acne Um must do all in his power to keep that acne strong and going. Tall Um must never stop growing too soon.
Picky Um must never learn to like food. Or never admit to it anyhow.
Fat Um must never lose weight. Ugly Um must never be pretty.
Young Um must never grow old.
This must be it. I think I have quite gotten the gist of it.
I should like to live in Umbridge. Be an Um like the rest of them.
